Traffic Congestion during ZOW 2oo6
Regrettably we were faced with exceptional traffic congestion on the second day of this year's ZOW show. We would like to apologize for this unpleasant situation even though the problems in question were in no way the responsibility of SURVEY, the event's organizer. In spite of further improvements to the infrastructure around the fairgrounds it was impossible to prevent the trouble from arising.
The reason was the complete blockage of the Vlotho-Exter junction on the A2 autobahn, which lasted all day on 21.02.2006 and part of the following day too. The autobahn traffic from both directions was diverted accordingly over the Herford-Ost junction and the Bad Salzuflen/Herford (B 239) intersection.Consequently, the general road system in the Herford/Bad Sulzuflen area was completely overloaded by the extreme amount of traffic coming from the autobahn. This and the additional flow of visitor traffic to the ZOW meant that for hours at a time there was no movement at all on the roads. As the result, people traveling directly to the show arrived at the exhibition center very late and the entire public transport system and shuttle and feeder services were able to function with great restrictions only.
In cases of force majeure due to unforeseeable weather conditions it is impossible for organizers of a major public event to exert any influence whatsoever on changes made as the result to traffic planning and control. Nevertheless we want to selectively improve logistic conditions around the ZOW so that you can enjoy a pleasant and successful visit to the fair in the future.
Yours sincerely
